Testimony of Egan Carroll

I am Egan Carroll, and I hail from South Louisiana. I have graduated from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with a Baccalaureate Degree, as well as a Master of Arts Degree. The Bachelor of General Studies Degree focused on Pastoral Work/Church Planting, and The Master of Arts Degree which had a concentration in Marriage and Family Counseling. I have been a Chaplain for Hospice in both Baton Rouge and Slidell, Louisiana. I have also been a Chaplain in The United States Army (USA) where I have had extensive hours counseling single/married personnel, and providing ministry for the 2/5 Field Artillery Battalion (in and out a militarized zone).

I have been involved in just about every type of job imaginable. Yes, it’s true, I have delivered Domino’s pizza, I have owned my own business, I have been involved in retail, I have been a Deputy Sheriff, I have been in the Air Force/Louisiana Air Guard, I have been in the landscaping business, I have been a landlord, I have even washed dishes in a restaurant once, once in addition to the previously mentioned occupations. Just looking at this short list my background it is pretty diverse. This type of background is what I think is useful in helping others. I enjoy helping those who know or think they need that something to get through, “so I stand at the door” to help them as I can, so they can reach that point of balance.

Balance, it should be what we strive for in our lives. My life was truly out of balance at different times due to my shortsightedness, and sinfulness. I was born in to Catholicism where I followed closely to the faith and doctrine of the faith, but I always wanted to know more. I must say I do love my Christian brothers, but I always felt ill-prepared to discuss faith with others who seemed more passionate, or more informed. So, at about 28 years of age I began a quest to find out who God really is, but to my surprise I realized the quest was actually God calling me closer to Himself. What a blessing to be acknowledged by the God; then, I learned He has many that He calls to Himself. Realize, my life was not my own even though I thought it was back then. God had a plan for me as He does for countless others. The plan was to bring me back to His love, His lifestyle, His design, and it worked as it can in anyone’s life. I was an amateur alcoholic. I say amateur because I could not even get that right. My goal was to drink enough so others would feel sorry enough to care about me, pathetic I know. The problem was that I did not care enough about myself to realize my potential, and of course who is going to care for you in a bar or “club.” Moving closer to my God let Him know I wanted to make a change, and with that my world made such a “right turn” I am still on the path to becoming who God wants me to be. At 28 years old, I accepted Jesus as my Savior. What does that mean? It means I found out I cannot win at life on my own. I need a savior, an intercessor, someone to act on my behalf for my weaknesses, my inabilities, in short my sin. Now, I have found my balance.

At present, I have a great wife along with two wonderful children, and a God who cared enough about me to allow His Son to die in my place, in my wife’s place, in my children’s place, in your place. John 3:16 states: “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life (NASB).” Wow, the price is paid, all we have to do is trust and believe. What a great God and friend we have in Jesus. Thank you God for allowing this medium to express to the world the greatest story ever told (Your story) and our testimonials.
