But first let me share my experience with this wonderful prayer resource.How I Learned To Pray EffectivelyI have been trying to help a friend who is an alcoholic for many years. Nothing I did seemed to help my friend. I prayed, I showed the love of God, I had the friend live with my family for a while, but it seemed nothing I tried was working to release my friend from the addiction to alcohol. I didn't know what to do and wondered what would become of my friend.Then, a phone call I will always remember came. My friend was in the hospital. It seems my friend was found asleep at the wheel of a busy intersection with the car running - involved in no accident but alone and inebriated. The police brought my friend to the emergency room of the local hospital. I was thousands of miles away and could only pray. Not that prayer is the least I could do, but of course in my mind I needed to be there. If you are like me sometimes I lack faith because I want to fix the problem myself in my own way instead of first seeking prayer and the power of God to resolve problems. Being a man I am disposed to fix problems - that's what I am inclined to do. Being a Christian man I am instructed in the Bible to rely on God to fix problems - that's what I am supposed to do. But how I prayed for my friend was different than any prayer I had previously offered for any of my lost friends. I believed my friend was lost and was living a troubled life as a result. I had recently been given a book that I had yet to read, and with the circumstances my friend was in, I read that book thinking it would help me seek God's power in this difficult situation. I used the principles taught by Lee Thomas in his book Praying Effectively for the Lost to pray for my lost friend. Praise God that hears our prayers. He is great and can do immeasurably more than than all we ask or imagine, according to to His power that is work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:20 Family members flew into town to be with my friend, and after she was discharged from the hospital, worked with her to get into an alcohol addiction program. Nothing seemed to be going right and the difficulties of alcohol addiction were not helping matters. Days passed with no success. As it turns out, the very hour I was reading Praying Effectively for the Lost and praying for my friend, my friend's family was praying also. Unknown to us, at the same time, a Christian counselor at an alcoholic addiction residential treatment facility where my friend had applied for treatment had a feeling in her heart that my friend should be admitted for treatment! God heard my prayer and while I was praying thousands of miles away, God touched the heart of a Christian counselor, and he can touch the lives of lost loved ones in your lives too. There is no better way to spend your time and there is no higher calling than to bring someone to Christ. I recommend you acquire this great resource, a simple but powerful book of biblical principles that teach us how to pray for the lost. The book is not for sale, only donations are accepted.
