Nowhere else to turn

Don't know where to start but my biggest problem at the moment is finding a purpose to drive me. I have not exactly fully understood how to live the Christian life even though I am definitely a believer. I have made every mistake and committed so much sin that its hard to believe that I even know Christ. I have learned through all this that there is absolutely no hope in this world or in mankind apart from God. I have a decent level of understanding of the bible but I have had a hard time separating myself from this world. I know that God is all powerful and all loving but I have a hard time being excited by it because I seem so far from Him and this world and life seems to get between Him and I. I can go on and on but this is a start so thanks in advance for your prayers. Kirk
